The Regional District of
Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is partnering with municipalities, syilx Okanagan
communities, and all Electoral Areas to complete a Hazard, Risk and
Vulnerability Analysis (HRVA) for each community.
Emergency response and social service organizations, local knowledge experts, local industry and business professionals, and residents will provide input through Sub-Regional Committees. The project will be guided by an Advisory Committee made up of representatives from community partners.
An HRVA is a process through which the sources of potential harm and the likelihood and severity of the potential impacts for a given community are identified. The results from this analysis will be compiled into a report for each community and will also include specific recommendations on how to improve resilience and mitigate hazards.
The HRVAs will inform local and regional emergency response plans, land-use policies, and climate adaptation initiatives across the RDOS.
The project is grant-funded through the Province of B.C. and will take place over two years, from January 2025 to December 2026.
