The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is partnering with six municipalities, four local syilx Similkameen/Okanagan communities, and all Electoral Areas to complete a Hazard, Risk and Vulnerability Analysis (HRVA) for each community.
Emergency response and social service organizations, local knowledge experts, industry and business professionals, and residents will be invited to provide input through sub-regional committees. The project will be guided by an Advisory Committee made up of representatives from community partners.
HRVA is a process to identify hazards that may cause an emergency and the potential consequences. The results of the analysis will be compiled in a report for each community and will include specific recommendations on how to improve resilience and mitigate hazards.
The HRVAs will inform local and regional emergency response plans, land-use policies, and climate adaptation initiatives across the RDOS. The project is grant-funded through the Province of B.C. and will take place over two years, from January 2025 to December 2026.
