PLEASED TO PRESENT...
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is pleased to present the Kobau Park Concept Plan, a community-driven initiative aimed at enhancing the park's amenities and ensuring its sustainable stewardship. Developed through collaboration with the RDOS, LA West (park design consultant), and extensive public engagement, this concept plan and project engagement summary identifies and addresses strengths, deficiencies, and improvement opportunities that will guide the future maintenance and development of this community gem. As the current lease agreement expires in 2026, the Concept Plan plays a crucial role in the renewal application for the Provincial land tenure. The RDOS is actively preparing the necessary documentation to facilitate a smooth renewal process. Once renewed, the RDOS will work closely with the local community to implement priority initiatives in alignment with the shared vision. The RDOS expresses gratitude to all participants in the Kobau Park Concept Plan, contributing to an exceptional park experience for current and future generations.
Note: Please see the "Documents" tab along the side of this project page for the full versions of both the concept plan and project engagement summary.
Project Background
The Regional District provides services for six municipalities and nine electoral areas. It has a geographic area of approximately 10,400 km2 and serves 82,000 residents. Nestled into the confines of the Similkameen Valley and Electoral Area “B”, one of the nine electoral areas, is the town of Cawston. Surrounded by lush agricultural land, this rural landscape makes for an increasingly popular place to call home. More specifically, Cawston houses Kobau Park, which is the subject of this project.
Project Purpose
The intent of the project is to generate a concept plan that will inform the provincial land tenure renewal application and guide the enhancement of Kobau Park and its amenities in the years to come.
