Construction Update

Mariposa Park's perimeter pathway work will begin on April 4, 2024. The Park will be closed to the public for the entire month of April, with the exception of the tennis and sports courts, which will remain accessible.

This temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the public during the construction period. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to enhance the overall experience at Mariposa Park.

Mariposa Park Development Plan resumes with funding boost from Growing Community Fund

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is pleased to announce the resumption of the Mariposa Park Development Plan, thanks to the availability of funds through the Growing Community Fund and the support from the Area “F” Director. Initially deferred in 2022 due to budget constraints, the project is now set to move forward, bringing improvements to Mariposa Park located in Greater West Bench within Electoral Area “F”.

The RDOS anticipates awarding the project contract in the winter of 2024, with construction slated to begin in the spring of 2024. The Mariposa Park Development Plan, based on a community-informed conceptual plan from 2021, aims to enhance the park's amenities. Phase one of the project includes the construction of a perimeter pathway, which will increase accessibility and landscape improvements.

The RDOS expresses gratitude for the community's patience and understanding during the temporary delay. We look forward to bringing Mariposa Park's envisioned improvements to life and creating a more vibrant community space for all to enjoy.

Project Background

The project's intent is to provide the Regional District with targeted outcomes formed from community consultation with residents and relevant groups resulting in a park design concept plan that will guide the development of Mariposa Park, its recreation assets, and amenities. Mariposa Park offers tennis, basketball, a children’s playground, and open green space.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) provides services for six municipalities and nine electoral areas. The RDOS covers a geographic area of approximately 10,400 km2 and serves 82,000 residents.
