Thank you to all that participated in the Naramata Liquid Waste Management Plan Survey.

Project Overview

The RDOS is in the process of developing a Liquid Waste Management Plan (LWMP) for the community of Naramata. The plan will focus on protecting public health and the surrounding environment, especially Okanagan Lake.

Purpose

Naramata is a small community with approximately 1,000 full-time residents; however, the population doubles during the summer months due to an influx of visitors.

Currently, the majority of residents use on-site septic tank systems for their wastewater management, and a few private developments use sewage treatment facilities.

The last LWMP was created in 1993. The plan needs to be re-assessed to ensure it meets today’s requirements for wastewater treatment and environmental protection. This will take into consideration the current and future conditions.

Main Goals

  • Community supported plan
  • Cost-effective wastewater treatment
  • Health and environmental protection
  • Water and energy conservation
  • Limit Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions

Please note that this effort is to develop a Plan.

Thank you for your continued interest in the development and updating of the Naramata Liquid Waste Management Plan. The RDOS will resume this project later in 2024.
