Project Update (May 6, 2024):
Currently, the RDOS is finalizing detailed plans to bring the conceptual design to fruition. This involves creating a grading plan, implementing irrigation and planting strategies, and finalizing the designs for two key structures, the gazebo and a washroom facility. The washroom will serve park visitors and benefit users of the pickleball courts, tennis courts, and ice rink.
Project Location:
Spirit Park is a community park in Electoral Area "E", located in Naramata at Bartlett Road and Robinson Avenue to the southeast of Naramata Elementary School. The park features a playground, tennis and pickleball courts, as well as a multi-use court which at times in the winter is flooded for ice skating. The tennis courts are available for private and recreation programs.
Project Background:
In 2022, the RDOS was awarded a grant to improve the accessibility of Spirit Park by installing asphalt pathways and constructing a community gazebo. The primary objective of these enhancements is to ensure access for all park visitors. In 2023, RDOS staff completed the conceptual design, which meets the grant requirements and addresses historical drainage issues within the park.
In October 2023, the RDOS completed work on resurfacing the Spirit Park multi-use court. The work consisted of demolition and removal of the existing asphalt, regrading of the subbase, and placement of a new asphalt layer. The multi-use court provides recreational activities for the community throughout the year.
Project Scope:
Generally, the work will consist of:
- Drainage improvements
- Construction of a community washroom facility & gazebo
- Accessibility improvements: asphalt paths and parking
- Restorative landscaping.
